Biography:

Beverly Bailey Burt, RN, BSN, CIC Professional Infection Prevention Services, LLC, Business Owner, and Consultant Beverly received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Mississippi College in 1978. She has served in the role of infection preventionist for the past 33 years, primarily at an acute care facility. Prior to being an infection preventionist, she worked as a nurse in the following areas: critical care, telemetry, catheterization lab, operating room, utilization review, and quality improvement. She has been certified in infection prevention and control since 1995 and also served on the Certification Board of Infection Control (CBIC) Test Committee for two years from 2012 to 2014. While serving on the CBIC Test Committee, she developed test questions for the CBIC exam. Beverly is a member of APIC and has served in various roles in her local APIC Chapter as president, president-elect, treasurer, bylaws chairman, nominating chairman and board member. She began her own infection prevention consulting company in 2014, Professional Infection Prevention Services, LLC. She has worked as an infection prevention consultant for the Mississippi State Department of Health, the Mississippi Public Health Institute, Mississippi Hospital Association’s Health, Research, and Educational Foundation, Inc. and APIC Consulting Services, Inc.

Myra M. Foley, BA, RN, CIC, WCC, CPHQ Myra Foley joined the LHA Hospital Improvement Innovation Network (HIIN) team in April 2017. Her 27-year nursing career in Louisiana has spanned a variety of venues from medical/surgical floor nursing to psych, the operating room, education, and infection prevention. During her time as a circulating nurse in the operating room, she was a member of AORN and held a certification in that area (CNOR). For the past 17 years, Myra has focused on infection prevention and is a certified infection preventionist (CIC). She recently obtained her certification in Wound Care her Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification and her Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality designation. She is a passionate advocate for protecting patients in the healthcare environment. In her current role as a Quality Improvement Specialist for the HIIN, she assists member hospitals in their quality improvement efforts as they strive toward zero patient harm.

Susan Taylor, MS, MT (ASCP), SM, CIC, FAPIC Susan has a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, a certification as a specialist in public health and medical laboratory microbiology and a master’s degree in health science. During a span of 22, years her microbiology experience included working at respected hospitals such as Baptist Medical Center, St. Dominic Hospital, Emory University, and University of South Alabama. She received her certification in infection control in 2000 and has continued to have an infection prevention passion at four different acute care facilities including one LTAC. During this time, she has remained an active member of the Greater Jackson Chapter serving as president for three separate terms as well as treasurer and board member. The APIC’s “Ready Reference to Microbes” contains a chapter contributed by Susan. In 2016, Susan was selected to present a poster session at the national APIC Conference. The poster session was entitled “Reducing Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections: “A Never Ending Story” and described a 74% reduction in CAUTI. At the national APIC conference, Susan received the credential FAPIC for Fellow of the Association for Professional in Infection Control and Epidemiology. FAPIC is a distinction of honor based on evidence of achievement, exemplary contribution and leadership in the field of infection prevention and control. Susan now uses her extensive experience to help provide support and education for other infection preventionists.
